PostNL, Correos And CTT Portugal Post Awarded The 2022 PostEurop CSR “Coups De Coeur”

PostEurop proudly announced the winners of the “2022 CSR Coups de Coeur” awards during a ceremony held at the General Assembly gala dinner on 5 October in the historical Dublin General Post Office.

The awards recognise the best practices of postal operators in the categories “Employees”, “Economy” and “Environment”.   The “Economy” category replaces the previous “Society” category in line with PostEurop’s Sustainability Vision.

In the Employees category, PostNL received this year’s “Coup de Coeur” award for its “Recognition for promoting inclusive employability” programme, which is an integral part of PostNL’s diversity and inclusion policy.  The programme provides vulnerable people seeking a sustainable job an opportunity to work. In a pilot, for employees doing delivery, an electric and sustainable vehicle called “the Connect Carrier” was attached to a wheelchair with a tailormade adapter that can be operated and driven independently by the employee. Martijn de Groote, Senior Project manager Wholesale at PostNL added “the candidate has brought mail pieces to our business clients, which were successfully delivered in time. If the final test in one city succeeds, the Connect Carrier will be implemented all over the country, offering new job-opportunities for employees in a wheelchair.” See video

Correos was awarded the “Coup de Coeur” for Economy for their “Supporting Rural Development” project assisting the Spanish government’s 2030 Agenda to implement measures alleviating the demographic challenge in the less populated areas in Spain. The project focusses on providing citizen-oriented services at post offices and at home based on the traditional portfolio as well as new services such as cash deposit/withdrawal, tax and utilities payments and assurances. These initiatives run in parallel with a technological service platform for citizens, connected to administration and utility companies and a project on card payment via the postmen’s PDAs. Elena Fernández-Rodríguez, Director of International Affairs & SDG states that “The “rural challenge” strategy of Correos aims at providing a wide range of products and services to all citizens and companies wherever they live or operate, Thus, we launched services that enlarge the concept of financial inclusions, by installing not only 109 ATM in rural areas, but also allowing card payments with our Pin on Glass projects allowing using PDAs as Point of sale (POS) devices”. See video

The “Coup de Coeur” for Environment was awarded to CTT Portugal for their “ToBeGreen Mask” initiative, which gives safety masks a second life.  It is a timely and innovative project that promotes circular economy by recycling and processing waste to create new products. After just one year and a half, CTT Portugal Post and To-Be-Green recycled tens of thousands of masks used by the company’s employees, helping to reduce waste and making a strong positive impact on the environment. João Bento’s, CEO of CTT Portugal Post, explained that “The community is the engine for change and the adoption of sustainable practices is increasingly urgent. The project to recycle masks was most welcomed within CTT Portugal Post and has become another example of our strong commitment to environmental issues.” See video

These Coups de Coeur aim to promote innovative CSR practices and were selected by a final jury composed of several experts with experience in CSR, including experts from PostEurop, IPC and UPU. In view of the high quality and the increasing number of practices received this year, we thank all the postal operators for their commitment in this event.

Congratulations to all the winners.
